Former Nat Eierman Receives Missouri Pro Line Player of the Year Award

Former Midwest Nationals infielder Johnny Eierman (Warsaw) accepted the Missouri Pro Line Player of the Year Award on Saturday, January 20th at the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association Clinic in Jefferson City, Missouri. The award is given to the top high school player in the state of Missouri. Eierman was a 3rd round MLB draft by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2011.

Nats Outfielder Corey Hassel Wins Ferguson Jenkins Award

Midwest Nationals Outfielder and Oklahoma State signee Corey Hassel is one of five high school baseball players in Oklahoma selected to receive the Ferguson Jenkins Award.

The Ferguson Jenkins Outstanding Student Athlete Award recognizes 10 high school athletes and the outstanding high school baseball and softball coaches. The Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame Museum created the awards in 1999 to recognize Oklahoma’s best high school baseball and softball student athletes for their roles as citizens and successful athletes.

National Baseball Hall of Famer Ferguson Jenkins helped start the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame Museum in 1992. Jenkins was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991, after a 19-year career as a power pitcher. He led Major League Baseball in wins from 1967 to 1980. Jenkins was the first pitcher to throw more than 3,000 strikeouts with less than 1,000 walks. During his career, Jenkins threw the only six-straight 20-win seasons in the last 45 years of Major League Baseball. He was a three-time Major League Baseball All-Star and the National League Cy Young Award winner in 1971. Jenkins is also the winningest black pitcher in Major League Baseball history with 284 wins.

The Ferguson Jenkins Awards are presented annually at the Warren Spahn Award Gala in Oklahoma City.

Corey will be presented the award January 26th at the Jim Thorpe Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

UNIFORM NUMBER AUCTION REMINDER

We are once again having a uniform number auction for each of our teams. Last year we raised and donated over $1200 to benefit “The Miracle Field” at Dan Kinney Park on Blackman Road.This year, all money raised will be donated to Doug Pitt’s Care to Learn Foundation (http://www.caretolearnfund.org).

This is a first-come first-served auction and numbers will be available until December 1st. Numbers cost $20 and if you want to secure your uniform number for the spring and summer send an email to Coach Hartley at hartley@midwestnationals.org with your TOP 3 uniform number choices.

Former Nats Scott Elbert and Lucas Harrell Making Name in the Bigs

Former Midwest Nationals pitchers Scott Elbert (Los Angeles Dodgers) and Lucas Harrell (Houston Astros) are quickly establishing themselves as quality major league arms.

Elbert has 38 relief appearances for the Dodgers and a 2.51 ERA. In his first start for the Astros, Harrell pitched 5.1 shutout innings against the Brewers.

Third Annual Midwest Nationals Golf Tournament Announced

The Midwest Nationals will be hosting the third annual Midwest Nationals $100,000 Shootout Golf Tournament on Saturday, October 1st at Greene Hills Country Club.

Format will be a 4-man scramble with a 8:30 am shotgun start.

Cost is $360 per team or $460 for corporate team (includes exclusive hole sponsorship), includes lunch, prizes, and contests.

Rawlings Scout Team Runner-Up at Premier Junior Championship in Joplin, Missouri

Congratulations to the Midwest Nationals in the class of 2012 (Austin Tribby, Tyler Harris, Chris Townsend, Luke Gibbs, Breckin Williams, Corey Hassel, Dean Deetz, Chris Quesada, and Spencer Johnson). They recently joined forces with the 2012 grads of the Rawlings Prospects in St. Louis to form the first ever Rawlings Scout Team. The team went 8-1 and took second place in the prestigous Premier Baseball Junior Championship in Joplin, Missouri. The event was scouted by more than 150 college recruiters and Major League scouts

Midwest Nationals Fall Teams Now Forming

The Midwest Nationals and Midwest Baseball are now forming Fall Baseball teams for high school players with the goals of exposure, competition, and skill improvement.

18U & 16U teams will participate on approximately 6 weekends (Sat & Sun), or 10 dates of play, with about 20 games.

The schedule for 18U (Seniors & Juniors) teams will include games against other fall showcase teams, junior college, and other college teams.

The schedule for 16U (Sophomores & Freshman) teams will include weekend tournaments in the region.

Travel, lodging, and food is not included. Overnight stays will be limited to no more than 3 weekends for 18U teams, but may include up to 5 weekends for 16U teams.

Cost for the fall season is $475 per player. Cost includes hat and game top, tournament/event fees, coaching fees, and insurance.
