Thomazin hits and pitches the Nationals 13U Blue to 10-3 victory

An impressive two-way performance from Logan Thomazin led the Nationals 13U Blue to a 10-3 win Saturday over KC Stix, as Thomazin came up huge at the dish and on the bump.

Thomazin had two extra-base hits for the Nationals 13U Blue. He tripled in the first and fifth innings.

KC Stix couldn’t get anything going so long as Thomazin was on the hill. Thomazin held KC Stix hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.

The Nationals 13U Blue blew out KC Stix thanks to 14 hits, including six extra base hits. The Nationals 13U Blue scored four runs in the fourth on a groundout by Taylor Whitworth, a two-run double by Tyler McGrew, and a walk by Austin Atkins.

Matthew Patton got the win for the Nationals 13U Blue. He allowed two runs over one inning. Patton struck out one, walked two and gave up three hits.

The Nationals 13U Blue‘s Atkins, McGrew, Kyle Stringer and Thomazin combined for nine hits and seven RBIs.

The Nationals 13U Blue never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring two runs on a groundout by Patton and an RBI triple by Thomazin.

The Nationals 13U Blue brought home four runs in the second inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the second, the Nationals 13U Blue scored on an RBI double by McGrew, scoring Brett Hammit.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the second, KC Stix faced just a 6-2 deficit. A passed ball set off a KC Stix rally. Finally, Thomazin got Tyler Miller to to end the threat.

The Nationals 13U Gray outlast Southwest Domination in high-scoring affair, 17-10

The Nationals 13U Gray and Southwest Domination lit up the scoreboard on Saturday as they combined for 27 runs. In the end, Nationals 13U Gray won the offensive battle 17-10 in five innings.

Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 24 hits, including six extra base hits.

The Nationals 13U Gray‘s bats came to life in the second inning. In the inning the Nationals 13U Gray scored 10 runs.

Chase Polston racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Nationals 13U Gray. He singled in the first inning and tripled in the fourth inning.

Even though Laine Hilliard allowed nine runs over 4 1/3 innings he still recorded the victory. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered nine hits.

The Nationals 13U Gray pounded Southwest Domination pitching, as six hitters combined for 11 hits, 13 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Nationals 13U Gray closer Tate Hutter put away the final two outs to record the save.

The Nationals 13U Red top the SWMO Braves in back-and-forth affair, 9-4

The Nationals 13U Red and the SWMO Braves exchanged the lead five times on Saturday, but the Nationals 13U Red ended up on top with a 9-4 win in six innings over the SWMO Braves.

The Nationals 13U Red pulled out the win thanks to a strong fourth inning. A passed ball scored Connor Lambeth and gave the Nationals 13U Red the lead for good. A passed ball scored Lambeth to give the Nationals 13U Red the lead for good.

Drake Freeman got on base two times in the game for the Nationals 13U Red. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He tripled in the second inning.

Sean Cole got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. He allowed two runs over two innings. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered three hits.

The bottom of the first saw the SWMO Braves take an early lead, 2-0. Austin kicked things off for the SWMO Braves with a single. A stolen base then moved Austin from first to second. Gavin tripled, bringing home Austin. More runs came home for the SWMO Braves when Gavin scored on an RBI single by Ensminger.

The SWMO Braves pushed across one run in both the third inning and the fifth. In the third, the SWMO Braves scored on an RBI double by Gavin, plating Austin.

The Nationals 13U Red didn’t give up the lead after the fourth inning. Additional runs came from two passed balls.

The Nationals 13U Red brought home two runs in the fifth inning, and matched that run total in the sixth. In the fifth, the Nationals 13U Red scored on a two-run single by Cole, scoring Jordan Fitzpatrick and Jackson Auer.

One the SWMO Braves run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fifth, making the score 7-4. An RBI double by Austin sparked the SWMO Braves’ rally. Brogun Betta ended the inning by getting Gavin to fly out.

The Nationals 13U Red tacked on another two runs in the sixth. A passed ball scored Seth Tucker for the inning’s first run. That was followed up by an error that scored Lambeth.

Midwest Nationals 13U Red record 21-12.

The Nationals 13U Blue fall to the Mac-N-Seitz Indians 5-1 in spite of Atkins’ performance

Austin Atkins went 1-3, but the Nationals 13U Blue still fell to the Mac-N-Seitz Indians 5-1 in seven innings on Saturday at Liberty, Missouri.

Atkins did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Nationals 13U Blue, reaching base two times. He singled in the third inning.

Cole Duensing recorded the win for the Mac-N-Seitz Indians. He allowed one run over three innings. Duensing struck out six, walked two and gave up two hits.

Midwest Nationals 13U Blue record 15-7.

Former Midwest Nationals Parker impresses in big league debut

CHICAGO — Right-hander Blake Parker impressed Cubs manager Dale Sveum this spring, and now he’ll get a chance to do so in the big leagues.

“I liked him a lot in Spring Training,” Sveum said Thursday. “He’s got an above-average slider, and that’s one thing we need right now is somebody who can go through right-handers with a slider. He’s got velocity. He’s a guy who has done a nice job and you have to start rewarding guys who’ve done a nice job.”

Parker, 26, was rewarded when he was called up from Triple-A Iowa to the Cubs on Thursday. He made his Major League debut in the seventh inning and struck out the first batter he faced, the Phillies’ Ty Wigginton, then gave up an infield hit to Hector Luna. Parker then got Freddy Galvis to hit into a double play to end the inning.

So far, so good. But in the eighth, the Phillies had runners at second and third with two outs and Parker fielded Hunter Pence’s swinging bunt, then overthrew first for an error. Two runs scored.

“If there’s one thing I pride myself on, it’s [pitchers' fielding practice],” said Parker, upset about the errant throw.

The good news is that he wasn’t intimidated about pitching in a big league ballpark. He had about nine family members and friends who flew to the game at Wrigley Field.

“I felt right at home,” Parker said.

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Blake Parker from Triple-A Iowa and optioned left-handed pitcher Scott Maine to Triple-A.

Parker, who joins the first major league roster of his professional career, will wear uniform number 55 and be available for the Cubs tonight against the Philadelphia Phillies at Wrigley Field.

Chicago’s 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.

Parker, 26, is 1-0 with five saves and a 2.08 ERA (3 ER/13.0 IP) in 13 relief appearances this season… read more of this story

The Nationals 11U Blue fall to Oklahoma Canes 5-0 in spite of Crabtree’s performance

Hunter Crabtree did all he could to give the Nationals 11U Blue a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past Oklahoma Canes, as the Nationals 11U Blue lost 5-0 in six innings at Tulsa, Oklahoma on Sunday.

Crabtree paced the Nationals 11U Blue at the plate. Crabtree went 1-1. He singled in the third inning.

Michelle Artzenberger got the win for Oklahoma Canes. He pitched 5 2/3 shutout innings. He struck out six, walked none and surrendered two hits.

Oklahoma Canes’ Conner Thaxton, Gage Crawford, Rylee Holmes and Jace Beck combined for five hits and three RBIs.

The game was never in doubt after the first, as Oklahoma Canes scored one run on a solo home run by Crawford.

Oklahoma Canes matched its one-run second inning with one more in the third. In the second, Oklahoma Canes scored on an error, bringing home Holmes.

Nationals 14U Blue outhits OK Outlaws in 8-6 defeat

The Nationals 14U Blue lost 8-6 in six innings on Sunday, at Tulsa, Oklahoma despite outhitting OK Outlaws 11 to eight.

Parker Dent racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Nationals 14U Blue. He doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth inning.

Jordan Taylor looked sharp on the mound. Taylor held OK Outlaws hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three.

OK Outlaws never trailed after scoring four runs in the first on an RBI double by #14, two errors, and a groundout by #4.

The Nationals 14U Blue scored one run in the first inning, and then followed it up with one more in the fourth. In the first, the Nationals 14U Blue scored on an RBI single by Kyle Smith, bringing home Cameron Witt.

Two runs in the bottom of the second helped the Nationals 14U Blue close their deficit to 4-3. An RBI double by Dent and a groundout by DJ McNew set off a the Nationals 14U Blue rally. Finally, #7 induced an inning-ending strike out from Billy Meredith.

OK Outlaws brought home two runs in the third inning, and matched that run total in the fourth. In the third, OK Outlaws scored on a walk by #27, plating #14.

OK Outlaws tacked on another two runs in the fourth. #13 kicked things off with a single, scoring #7. That was followed up by an error that scored #3.

Two runs in the bottom of the fifth helped the Nationals 14U Blue close their deficit to 8-6. An RBI single by Luke Hauswirth and an RBI single by Taylor fueled the Nationals 14U Blue‘s comeback. Finally, #3 got Hayden Crabtree to strike out to end the threat.

Midwest Nationals 14U Blue record 27-11.

The Nationals 11U Blue top OK Steelers in back-and-forth affair, 3-2

The Nationals 11U Blue took the last of five lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against OK Steelers, securing a 3-2 victory on Sunday.

The Nationals 11U Blue took the lead in the fifth inning and held on for the victory. The Nationals 11U Blue went up for good on an RBI single by Jaden DuVall off Vernon, scoring Grant Jones.

OK Steelers couldn’t get anything going so long as Mason Auer was on the hill. OK Steelers managed just three hits off of Auer, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out two during his five innings of work.

The Nationals 11U Blue jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

The Nationals 11U Blue didn’t give up the lead after the fifth inning. Additional runs came from a sacrifice fly by Reece Chiasson.

Nationals 14U Blue comes up short despite Witt’s gem, lose 1-0 to Wichita Dodgers

Cameron Witt allowed just one run on Sunday at Tulsa, Oklahoma, but the Nationals 14U Blue couldn’t get the offense going in a 1-0 defeat to the Wichita Dodgers.

Witt brought the heat against the Wichita Dodgers during his outing. The Wichita Dodgers managed just three hits off of Witt, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out four during his six innings of work.

#51 got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He tossed six innings of shutout ball. He struck out eight, walked five and surrendered two hits.

The Wichita Dodgers managed to score one run in the second inning on an RBI single by #12.

Midwest Nationals 14U Blue record 27-10.
