Grant Jones went 1-2, helping the Nationals 11U Blue to a 9-4 victory over Rawlings Jr Recruits on Sunday at St. Louis, Missouri.
He singled in the first inning.
Mason Auer got it done on the bump on the way to a win. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out two, walked four and surrendered seven hits.
Nationals 11U Blue closer Jake Uber put away the final three outs to record the save.
The Nationals 11U Blue never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring three runs on two singles.
One run in the top of the second helped Rawlings Jr Recruits close its deficit to 3-1. An error sparked Rawlings Jr Recruits’ rally. The Rawlings Jr Recruits threat came to an end when Auer finally got Browning to ground out.
The Nationals 11U Blue answered Rawlings Jr Recruits’ top inning with five runs of their own in the second. The Nationals 11U Blue scored on a fielder’s choice, a steal of home by Ryan Persson, an RBI single by Kade Houchin, an RBI double by Reece Chiasson, and a passed ball.
One run in the top of the third helped Rawlings Jr Recruits close its deficit to 8-2. A groundout by Erdman set off a Rawlings Jr Recruits rally. Finally, Auer induced an inning-ending strike out from Lively.
Rawlings Jr Recruits scored one run in the top of the fourth to cut its deficit to five. An RBI single by Iseman triggered Rawlings Jr Recruits’ comeback. The Nationals 11U Blue stopped the rally after Auer got Reter to fly out.
A one-run sixth inning helped bring Rawlings Jr Recruits within five. An RBI single by Iseman sparked Rawlings Jr Recruits’ rally. The Nationals 11U Blue closed the game out when Uber got Mcgrarty to ground out.
